Fake KPLC Customer Care Agents on Twitter
Kenyans have been cautioned against falling prey to impostors who pose as Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) customer care agents on Twitter. These fraudsters target customers who have unresolved complaints with KPLC and offer them fake solutions in exchange for money or personal information.
They use social engineering skills to manipulate and deceive unsuspecting clients into their traps. KPLC has advised its customers not to share confidential details like cell phone numbers in the comment section of its Twitter page, but rather to send them via direct messages (DMs).
The company has also urged customers to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a KPLC staff before engaging with them. Customers can do this by checking the official KPLC Twitter handle, which is @KenyaPower_Care.
Customers should also be aware of the common signs of online scams, such as requests for upfront payments, unsolicited offers, and pressure tactics. By being vigilant and informed, customers can protect themselves from falling victim to online fraudsters.
