The Head Chef at Presbyterian University of East Africa (PUEA) Restaurant is responsible for overseeing the culinary operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality food services to the university community. This role requires a creative and skilled professional who can lead a team, manage kitchen operations, and maintain the highest standards of food preparation and presentation.
- Culinary Arts degree or relevant certification is preferred;
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or similar role in a high-volume food service establishment;
- In-depth knowledge of various culinary techniques, cooking methods, and international cuisines;
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate kitchen staff;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations;
- Creativity and ability to develop innovative menus while considering dietary requirements;
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders, including kitchen staff, front-of-house personnel, and management;
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment;
Duties and Responsibilities
The Head Chef shall be responsible for and perform functions which include but not limited to the following:
- Plan and develop menus in collaboration with the catering manager and university management and nutritionists to meet the dietary needs and preferences of the university community;
- Manage the overall culinary operations, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation;
- Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to standardized recipes, food safety, and hygiene protocols;
- Monitor food quality, portion sizes, and presentation to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction;
- Maintain inventory levels, order supplies, and manage the cost of ingredients to ensure efficient kitchen operations;
- Collaborate with the purchasing department to source fresh and high-quality ingredients;
- Stay updated on industry trends, new cooking techniques, and menu innovations to enhance the dining experience at PUEA Restaurant;
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including sanitation and cleanliness standards;
- Collaborate with the service staff to coordinate food service and address any customer concerns or special requests;
- Participate in special events, culinary competitions, and other relevant activities to promote PUEA Restaurant and showcase culinary excellence;
TERMS OF SERVICE
The terms of service for the positions will be on Contract Terms renewable based on satisfactory performance.
